Vision & Goal Statement of Oasis Community Church The vision of Oasis is to fulfill The Great Commission by being a spiritual oasis
through which God's living waters can flow.
The Great Commission, the Lord's mission for his church in Mt. 28:18-20, means we will
make disciples of all nations
baptize them
and teach them to obey all that Jesus taught.
The living waters, which are symbolic of the Holy Spirit (John 7:38-39), means that God desires holy, yielded conduits (Christians) through which the power, the presence, and the love of God can flow.
It's the Spirit who produces the character of Jesus in Christians (i.e., the fruits of the Spirit), making them wells of living waters.
It's the Spirit who gives gifts to believers so they can bear spiritual fruit in the church and in the world which will last forever.
Our vision statement is fairly meaningless unless it has leaders who will plan and implement specific goals along with specific steps of reaching those goals associated with the vision. Therefore, for our new ministry year we believe God would want us to pursue the following goals:
10 Goals for our new ministry year (Jan. - Dec. 09)
1. We will pray to the Lord of the Harvest to raise up leaders mainly for our children, our youth, our outreach, and our facility.2. We will begin a ministry to youth.3. We will have a men's retreat and women's retreat.4. We will always have mid-week discipleship groups / Bible studies / Home groups.5. We will develop our leadership team by appointing deacons, deaconesses, and elders.6. We will improve and expand our outreach ministries through MOPS, The Farmers Market, Family Film Night, an outreach to the base, along with exploring other avenues of evangelism.7. We will have at least 6 pot-lucks for fellowship.8. We will seek to have a meaningful ministry of helping people get out of the cycle of poverty and dependency.9. We will seek to have services with solid Bible teaching and heart-felt worship, creating a context where God's Spirit is free to work in the hearts of all in attendance.10. We will continue to encourage, nurture, and promote and atmosphere of love, unity, and excellence in all that we do.
Long-term goals In 2-7 years (2012-2017) we believe God desires Oasis to be a healthy, holy, full-service, mature, loving, evangelistic, elder-run, spirit-led, discipleship-making, missionary-sending and/or church-planing, church. Along with constantly improving our foundational ministries (e.g., children and youth), we desire to have specialized ministries geared to practically demonstrating the love of God by meeting specific needs of the community (like MOPS is doing now). This kind of church would probably necessitate a new facility.
